The vedas acknowledge divine karma as the origin of all creation, preservation, and destruction. However, since God does not have desires, unlike humans, he is not constrained by them. In the first chapter of the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad (1.6.1), we discover that karma is one of the three main causes of diversity, alongside name and form. The variety in names is a result of speech, and the variety in forms is a result of the eye, while the mind and body are the sources for the variety in actions. For every action, the body serves as the source, the controller, or the lord. Within the body, the mind, speech, breath, organs of action, and organs of perception are regarded as the primary deities who receive sustenance from the body and carry out their respective functions. Nevertheless, we cannot solely depend on them to combat the impurities and the malevolent forces that can infiltrate our body, as they are susceptible to evil and demonic influences, thoughts, desires, temptations,...
The C-19 has left us with inner and outer stress/depression, where the resulting economic crisis are a topic of great concern for all where the inner self/the mental self is left disturbed and depressed. India's population strength is about 130 Crores, that has now become a weak link since only 30% of the population is on the field and the balance 70% are at their homes, due to some reasons or other due to this pandemic that has lead them to a state of depression, as they have a family to sustain and they have to also care about them. But the fear of failure to keep their family happy leads them to their mental disorders leading to depression.
What the encyclopedia of psychology says about depression is that it is a feeling that goes beyond just sadness. This feeling or mental state leads us towards lack of energy, inability to concentrate, feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt leading even to recurrent thoughts of death or suicide.
Given this background, how does one deal with it?
One approach can be through Advaita Vedanta which states that we are not identified as the body and mind. We are separate from the body and mind. The feeling which we call depression is affecting the body through the thoughts in the mind. Human psychology adapts to negative things much better than the positive ones. So, we always have to be aware that we are the pure existence of self and not merely the body and mind. This may sound a bit confusing as to practice this in such a situation may seem difficult.
Let's not forget that Bhagavad Gita was taught to Arjuna by Krishna at the battlefield where the terrible war was imminent. But in the present situation there is no such Krishna whom we may look upon readily. In spite of this, it is the best time to teach ourselves and find the meaning and peace within.
Demonstration of humanity should be the greatest topic of concern in these ultra-stressed times. The approach should be such that when we open our eyes we should think of what and whom I can help rather than what can I get in return from others. Only this act of pure humanity among the masses can lead to a strong bonding among humans with strong sense of responsibility & awareness thus distributing mental peace and trust among those whom we want to and can serve.
The slogan of awareness should be the discipline for strengthening of the immunity and precautions for this pandemic so that "Go Corona, Corona Go" can become a reality and which we all can defeat only together, going across the countries/continents & religions/faiths . Here is the need as never before for the humanity to be responsible & trustworthy in search of its mental stability.
